Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 packet (7g) active dry yeast
  • 3/4 cup warm water (around 110°F)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 cup pizza sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup chopped pepperoni (optional)
  • Optional: sautéed vegetables like bell peppers, onions, or mushrooms
  • 1 egg (for egg wash) or 2 tbsp melted butter (optional, for brushing)

Instructions

  1. Mix warm water (approximately 110°F), sugar, and active dry yeast in a small bowl and let sit until foamy, about 5 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl, stir together flour and salt, add the yeast mixture and olive oil, and mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot for 1 hour.
  5. Punch down the risen dough and transfer to a floured surface.
  6. Roll the dough into a rectangle about 1/8 inch thick.
  7. Cut the dough into 3-inch squares.
  8. Spoon a little pizza sauce, sprinkle shredded mozzarella, and add desired toppings (such as pepperoni or sautéed vegetables) in the center of each square, avoiding overfilling.
  9. Fold each square into a roll and pinch the edges tightly to seal, wetting edges with water or egg wash if needed.
  10. Place rolls seam-side down on a parchment-lined baking sheet, spacing them to allow air circulation.
  11. Brush the rolls with egg wash or melted butter (or olive oil for a vegan option) and optionally sprinkle seasonings.
  12. Preheat oven or air fryer to 375°F.
  13. Bake in the oven at 375°F for 15–20 minutes until golden, or air fry at 375°F for 10–12 minutes, rotating the baking sheet halfway through baking if using the oven.
  14. Let the rolls cool for about 5 minutes before serving.
